How has Tradewind Aviation integrated FlightAware Global into its workflow?

The Scheduled Service/Client Services team has successfully integrated FlightAware Global into daily operations. This integration has significantly enhanced our day-to-day operations in two key ways.

1. Utilization of the “My Aircraft” Feature: By loading Tradewind tail numbers onto our FlightAware account, we have been able to fully utilize the “My Aircraft” feature. This functionality has become an immense time saver in our flight following processes, allowing for real-time tracking and efficient monitoring of our fleet. The streamlined process has not only improved our operational efficiency but has also freed up valuable time for our team to focus on other critical tasks.

2. Implementation of the “My Alerts” Feature: We have also taken full advantage of the “My Alerts” feature. This tool has been particularly useful in keeping us updated on changes to our guests' commercial flights. By continuously updating these alerts with new flight information, we ensure that we receive timely notifications of any changes. This proactive approach enables us to respond quickly and efficiently, thereby enhancing our service quality and customer satisfaction.

From the Dispatch team: FlightAware is the #1 program used for flight following and tracking. The program is utilized by both our Flight Coordinators and Dispatchers. Fleet situational awareness is enhanced by being able to see where our aircraft are at any point during their flight.

What specific challenges or pain points did FlightAware Global help Tradewind Aviation address?

The specific challenge the FlightAware product has helped us address is the efficient tracking of both our own aircraft and commercial aircraft. Prior to integrating these tools into our workflow, the tracking process was manual and time-consuming. By automating this process, we have significantly enhanced our operational efficiency and increased our speed in resolving day-of-issue matters.

This automation has enabled us to be more proactive in addressing guest problems, even those not directly generated by Tradewind Aviation. Our ability to respond swiftly and effectively to flight changes and disruptions has been improved, leading to higher customer satisfaction. Guests consistently notice the enhanced “Fly Personal” experience and continue to have confidence in our staff and services.

The integration of FlightAware has transformed our operations, making us more efficient and responsive, which has directly benefited our guests and strengthened their trust in our brand.

From the Dispatch team: Whether our aircraft are on an IFR or VFR flight plan, they are easy to see and locate. Quick program updates let us see the aircraft activity in case of diversion due to weather or maintenance issues. The historical data of previous flights lets us see any issue a flight may have experienced such as inflight holding or arrival times of previous flights.

What quantifiable results or improvements have Tradewind Aviation achieved since implementing FlightAware Global?

In recent weeks, we have formed a cross-departmental team responsible for managing the day of operations. This team handles a wide range of tasks to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery. Their responsibilities include tracking overweight luggage, guest communication during weather events, and delegating tasks during service disruptions. FlightAware is one of the essential tools utilized by each member of our cross-departmental team. The "My Aircraft" and "My Alerts" features for the Service team, in particular, have been instrumental in helping newer team members feel more confident in handling their daily responsibilities. These features streamline tracking and communication tasks. Data accuracy and reliability have been essential to allow the Tradewind Dispatch team to trust that an aircraft has departed or arrived.

Did you have any unique insights or lessons learned during the process?

The unique insights the Tradewind Scheduled Service and Client Service teams have gained from transitioning our flight tracking from a manual approach to an automated one with the FlightAware product are considerable time savings, enhanced operational efficiency, increased confidence among team members, and improved responsiveness and proactivity.  All these insights have greatly elevated the guest experience, both in the short and long term.

From the Dispatch team: Not only do we need to track your own flights, but also other carriers and airlines. Passenger connections and crew relocations play an important role in ensuring our flights operate smoothly and seamlessly. FlightAware helps us maintain better visibility and be more proactive instead of reactive.

The head-on pictures where you see all the planes aligned were shot out of a WWII B-25 bomber, where the photographer Mike Fixer was lying on his belly in the tail gunner position, giving him an unobstructed view of the formation. The side-angle pictures are captures from a Bonanza, graciously loaned from the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Depending on the photographer's position and aircraft the formation had to adjust their shape to get the best angle.
