New FlightAware AeroAPI® Release 4.27 Available - Including even more ways to access historical data

FlightAware's AeroAPI is your go-to tool for accessing detailed flight information. This Application Programming Interface (API) makes it simple to query and dig into a wealth of flight data, including historical records all the way back to January 2011. Whether you need real-time flight status, specific flight paths, routes, or any details about a flight, fleet, or tail number, AeroAPI has you covered. It's a robust solution for anyone looking to get comprehensive insights into flight data without the hassle.

We’re excited to announce that with our newest AeroAPI release, the same level of historical functionality is now available to obtain flight activity for an airport or airline operator of interest. The latest update – release 4.27 – can, in a single call, provide users the flight history for an operator and/or airport of interest with historical endpoints, making post-operational analysis quick, easy, and comprehensive.

Airport and Operator Historical Flight Data Now at Your Fingertips

Analyze a past weather event, identify trends, study flight traffic leading up to an event of interest, and much more. Need to know who is providing air service in a particular market at any point in time? What about on-time performance for an airport or operator, along with flight cancellation details? Research any post-op analysis of an airport traffic slowdown or runway construction closure. It's all at your fingertips with FlightAware AeroAPI release 4.27. On demand - any time - at your convenience.

We’ve recently added four new resources enabling easy access to all flight history arriving or departing an airport of interest, including historical flights dating back to January 1, 2011. Alternatively, we can provide all flight activity between a city pair of interest or for an airline operator. These complement the existing resources that enable you to easily obtain flight history for a flight identifier or an aircraft registration.

Getting started

AeroAPI is divided into several categories to make specific data easier to locate:

  • Flights: Flight summary information, actual flight tracks, current position for a specify flight ident or registration number
  • Predictions: Flight summary and positions enhanced with FlightAware Foresight®
  • Airports: Airport information and all associated arrival & departure flight activity
  • Operators: Operator information and all planned and actual flight activity
  • Alerts: Configure and receive real-time flight alerts on key flight events
  • History: Historical flight data access by flight, registration, airport, or operator
  • Miscellaneous: Flight disruption, future published flight schedules, blocked tail status, aircraft owner information, and more
  • Account: AeroAPI usage statistics

Now, AeroAPI introduces four new flight history endpoints:

  • GET /history/airports/{id}/flights/arrivals
  • GET /history/airports/{id}/flights/departures
  • GET /history/airports/{id}/to/{dest}
  • GET /history/operator/{id}

To access the new historical flight information, simply provide the airport or operator of interest, along with the desired date and time of interest. We have also included several optional parameters, providing additional flexibility and enabling you to further filter and get the precise data you need. Are you looking for only commercial flights or flights departing a particular city but for a single operator? All relevant flights and flight details will be returned, including cancelled flight information.

All current AeroAPI subscribers with a ‘Standard’ or ‘Premium’ tier account presently have access to historical data - there are no additional account setup changes required. You can start pulling historical flight data today. If you have a ‘Personal’ tier account, you can easily upgrade online to a Standard or Premium tier account and immediately gain access to historical flight data as well.

Quick reminder - don't forget about the recently introduced endpoint that helps you monitor your AeroAPI usage (accessed in the 'Account' section of the online documentation). As you make requests for historical data, stay on top of your monthly spend easily with a simple call to:

  • GET /account/usage
