FlightAware Blog Home    ADS-B Network News: June 2025

Welcome to the June edition of the FlightAware ADS-B newsletter! Yes, this one features another motorsports story. And yes, the author of the newsletter might be a little motorsports obsessed. But in my defense, it’s the middle of the season for nearly every popular racing series right now. But I promise, there is a connection with my real passion: ADS-B.

🏁 Racing at 35,000 Feet

On May 25, race fans got a rare treat: a chance to follow not just one but two motor races involving Kyle Larson, plus a high-speed flight sandwiched between them. The NASCAR and IndyCar star attempted the famed “Double,” running the Indianapolis 500 in the afternoon before jetting to Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600 that evening. While things didn’t go quite as planned on the track (he unfortunately crashed out of both races), it was the middle leg of his journey that caught the attention of our aviation-obsessed community.

Shortly before 3:50 PM ET, a Bombardier Challenger 350 (tail number N343SC) took off from Indianapolis International (KIND) en route to Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (KJQF), a common airport for NASCAR teams. We can’t say with 100% certainty it was his jet, but the timing and route lined up perfectly with Larson’s post-Indy itinerary.

Unknown-2

ADS-B watchers were quick to jump in. The aircraft made the roughly 75-minute hop at cruising speed, touching down in Concord just in time. But the race against time didn’t stop at the airport. Reports confirmed that helicopters played a key role in the doubleheader dash, with one flight whisking Larson from the Indy 500’s infield helipad to the awaiting jet, and another standing by at Concord to fly him straight to Charlotte Motor Speedway. While those rotorcraft legs aren’t as easy to spot on ADS-B, they were very much part of the high-speed ballet that had fans tracking every move.

It was a fun reminder that the action doesn’t always end with the checkered flag (or yellow flags in the case of Larson’s races). With a bit of timing and a sharp eye on the skies, ADS-B sleuths can catch all kinds of high-profile moments.

🌅 Featured ADS-B Host of the Month

Our featured host this month is MartinFounts who shared this fantastic photo of an outdoor 1090 MHz antennamounted on top of hangar. This FlightFeeder is installed at El Charco Airport in Chihuahua, Mexico. Judging by that sky, the sunsets there are something special.

With a clear 360° view, this setup delivers excellent range. They are regularly picking up messages from over 250 miles away.
