On Saturday, September 23, 2023, FlightAware staff exhibited at the Girls in Aviation Day at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Houston. One of our very own pilots, James Parkman, Certified Flight instructor and Product Manager, flew his plane to the event and hosted tours of the 1967 Cherokee 180 plane, which was a huge hit with the participants!
International Girls in Aviation Day at the Lone Star Flight Museum was presented by Houston Airport Systems and in partnership with Women in Aviation International-Houston Chapter. This special day was an immersive aviation experience that illustrated the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), with the goal to inspire the next generation of young people in aviation and STEM focused careers. It was an exciting day of discovering the possibilities of their own future.
Both Collins Aerospace and FlightAware sponsored events in Houston and Dallas this year, with employees from both organizations attending. Our goal in attending and exhibiting at the event was to help inspire girls to expand their interest in aviation and explore the career opportunities available in both aviation and STEM.
The events hosted over 200 girls ages 10-17, immersing them in the world of aviation and discovering the possibilities of their own future careers, and the day’s activities included:
- Aircraft Tours
- Aviation-STEM Career Fair
- Pilot Experience: Pre-flight inspection, chart a course & flight simulators
- Flight Academy, Hall of Fame and Scavenger Hunt
- Aviation Maintenance Activity
- Aviation Theme Photo Op
- Luncheon and Q&A with Women in Aviation Professionals
We were ecstatic to be a part of such a special and memorable day and look forward to attending again next year!
