❄️ January is here
Well, it’s actually nearly over already but still… new year, fresh calendar, and plenty of airplanes to watch. Thanks for kicking off 2026 with us and for being part of the ADS-B community that keeps FlightAware® running strong.
🛫 We’re looking to increase U.S. airport coverage
This month we’re focusing on expanding ADS-B coverage around several airports where additional feeders would make a big impact:
- KJAX- Jacksonville International Airport in Florida
- KIAH- George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Texas
- KMCO- Orlando International Airport in Florida
- KBHM- Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport in Alabama
- KDBQ- Dubuque Regional Airport in Iowa
- KDHN- Dothan Regional Airport in Alabama
If you live within about five miles of any of these airports, you could be perfectly positioned to help improve coverage. Even one well-placed receiver can fill gaps, strengthen low-altitude tracking, and help everyone see more of what’s happening in the sky and on the ground.
If this sounds like you, please fill out this FlightFeeder application form! We would love to hear from you.
🌴 Featured Host
Our featured host this month is Joao aka oreg0n! They share something in common with a lot of our hosts: they’re also a ham radio operator (callsign PU8AMB). But something very unique to this host is that their feeder is installed on top of a 12-story building in the heart of the Amazon rainforest! This feeder was installed in mid-2019 in Manaus, which is the capital of the Brazilian state of Amazonas and the largest city in the Amazon basin.

Active diapason high-gain antenna 1090 MHz (4 dBi + 17 dB) + jetvision bias tee. It features a built-in bandpass filter against interference from GSM frequencies (-35 dB) and a low-noise amplifier. It’s connected to 100 meters of outdoor RG6 with a 5-fold shielded pure copper inner conductor cable.

Connected to a Raspberry Pi 3B+ with a FlightAware Pro Stick Plus and FlightAware dual 978-1090 MHz band pass filter
