ADS-B FlightAware SurveyWe sent out two surveys last month asking for your feedback on your overall experience as a FlightAware contributor. Your voice was heard and we received lots of good feedback, so we will make sure to continue providing you with the best possible hosting experience while we continue to improve our network.

An FBO, or fixed-based operator, is a commercial operation that provides aviation services to airports and hangars. We have many FlightFeeders installed at FBOs throughout the world. They make for excellent locations for FlightFeeder installations as they are generally next to airports.
We want to start featuring FBOs in our newsletter so if you have connections and willing to share photos and answer some questions that we could share with the community, please reach out to adsbsocial@flightaware.com.
To give you an example of how FlightFeeders directly on airports can improve coverage, here are screenshots of coverage at Pueblo Memorial Airport before and after we installed a FlightFeeder.
If you, or someone you know, would like to host a Feeder at an FBO or live near an airport, you can also apply for a FlightFeeder at the following address.

These photos were submitted to us by arocchetti in Rome, Italy.
He is using a Raspberry PI with Bullseye OS with two RTL-SDR dongles. One is used for ADS-B reception and the other for the reception of NOAA meteo satellites.
His system uses homemade antennas installed on his roof, with the rest of the hardware located in his attic using a small WiFi router equipped with a 4G SIM as shown below.
If you have photos or an interesting story you’d like to share with us about you or your receiver, email us at adsbsocial@flightaware.com and you may be featured in one of our newsletters.
Are you proud of your receiver setup? Send us your photos! Each month we will proudly feature some of our ADS-B receiver hosts in our newsletter like the ones you see above. If you’re interested in being featured, please submit photos of your setups and a small summary about you or your setup, and we’ll pick some of the best ones to feature each month! We hope the featured hosts segment has been giving you ideas on improvements you can make to your receivers. |
If you have content you want to see in our newsletter, let us know by emailing adsbsocial@flightaware.com.
Our ADS-B network spans across 194 countries on all 7 continents thanks to you all. Our goal is to expand our terrestrial ADS-B coverage across the entire world, especially around airports to improve our surface coverage. If you or someone you know has connections to airports and FBO’s or live in areas where we lack coverage, we’d love to send you a FlightFeeder! You can apply for one here. If we already have coverage in your area, you can still contribute to FlightAware by building your own PiAware. It’s a fun little weekend project!
