Let's talk about some of the cool features that you can use when tracking flights on flightaware.com: flight replay and track visualization! These features are available on the flight page at flightaware.com. You can get to this page by searching for a flight on flightaware.com or by clicking the "FlightAware.com" link when viewing a flight in Skyview on your PiAware or FlightFeeder. Here is a fun example to replay.
You will now see flight replay controls below the flight map as well as a visualization of the aircraft's speed and altitude over the course of the flight:
Click the replay button to start the animation of the flight on the map for flights that have completed or are currently en route. You can adjust the replay speed to 10, 50 or 100 times faster than real-time. You can also set the replay to continuously loop for flights that have completed. The track visualization chart shows the altitude in green and the speed in yellow over the course of the flight. You can also drag the slider on the chart to see the aircraft's position on the map at a particular point in time.
For those interested in joining the ADS-B community, FlightAware offers step-by-step instructions to build a PiAware Receiver for under $100.
ADS-B hosts located in areas needing additional coverage might be eligible for a FlightFeeder, a free, prebuilt ADS-B receiver.
